\u00a0 \u00a01972, a\u00f1o en que comenzaron a funcionar la mayor\u00eda de los INEM del pa\u00eds, no fue el tiempo m\u00e1s acogedor para su propuesta de \u2018educaci\u00f3n diversificada\u2019. En efecto, antes y despu\u00e9s de ese a\u00f1o, Colombia viv\u00eda un estallido social protagonizado por el movimiento estudiantil de colegios y universidades oficiales. La esperanza de un gobierno \u2018popular\u2019 (Gustavo Rojas Pinilla) se vio frustrada por una elecci\u00f3n (Misael Pastrana Borrero) mancillada por la duda del fraude. Y sin esperanza, la raz\u00f3n queda suspendida y las emociones se exacerban.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0El movimiento estudiantil, y los sindicatos que lo apoyaban, ten\u00edan servida la bandera de combate: la implementaci\u00f3n en Colombia de un modelo educativo que en Estados Unidos estaba dando buenos resultados, el bachillerato diversificado. \u00a1Ah\u00ed fue Troya! Poco importaba si el modelo era bueno o malo; bastaba que viniera de USA para decir que era una estratagema del imperio para convertir a los futuros bachilleres en \u201cmano de obra barata\u201d. Y el prejuicio se gritaba como consigna en las manifestaciones. \u201cDame un prejuicio y mover\u00e9 el mundo\u201d, reza un aforismo. Pero no contaban los \u2018combatientes\u2019 que quien implementaba el modelo era en ese momento un obstinado estadista: Carlos Lleras Restrepo (1966-1970). Dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s los INEM eran ya una realidad.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0No se necesit\u00f3 mucho tiempo para demostrar que la propuesta educativa del sistema INEM era lo m\u00e1s \u00fatil y conveniente para estudiantes provenientes de estratos uno, dos y tres. Recu\u00e9rdese que hasta la d\u00e9cada del setenta en muchas de las ciudades intermedias no hab\u00eda universidades p\u00fablicas ni privadas; en ese escenario, la mayor\u00eda de j\u00f3venes egresados de colegios con bachillerato cl\u00e1sico no pod\u00edan seguir estudios superiores, ni tampoco hallar un trabajo digno, dado que ese bachiller \u2018sab\u00eda de todo\u2019, por no sab\u00eda hacer nada.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Me toc\u00f3 en suerte ingresar como docente de espa\u00f1ol y literatura en el INEM de Popay\u00e1n en 1980. Mi asombro fue grande al encontrarme con un plantel que era muchos colegios a la vez. De las cosas curiosas e interesantes que hall\u00e9 fue que el colegio cl\u00e1sico hac\u00eda parte del sistema inemita, en las modalidades de Humanidades y Acad\u00e9mico; all\u00ed se matriculaban los que no pensaban en trabajo sino en seguir derecho hacia la universidad.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Dos d\u00e9cadas fueron la edad de oro de los INEM. El nuestro parec\u00eda una universidad, por la cantidad de estudiantes (m\u00e1s de 3.500), la selecta planta docente y el organigrama administrativo de una instituci\u00f3n innovadora. La dotaci\u00f3n en laboratorios, talleres, ayudas educativas de todo tipo\u2026, era realmente asombrosa. A las aulas de todas las modalidades y\/o especialidades asist\u00edan grupos de m\u00e1s de 40 estudiantes que aprend\u00edan con entusiasmo y estudiaban con esfuerzo evidente.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Es bastante distinto el INEM de hoy, porque son muy diferentes los tiempos. Son otras las expectativas de los estudiantes, otros los intereses econ\u00f3micos y culturales de la sociedad colombiana, inserta en la aldea global que es el mundo. Un mundo de realidades diversas: la tangible de ayer, y esta virtual de hoy que se mueve al ritmo de las tecnolog\u00edas de la informaci\u00f3n y las comunicaciones. En fin, un futuro que para mayores como yo es cada d\u00eda m\u00e1s nebuloso; pero que para ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes es de muchas preguntas a\u00fan por resolver.<\/p>\n
